There are moments in game development where something small suddenly makes the whole world feel bigger. For Azthengar, that moment has arrived with music.
The castle is no longer silent. The dungeon now has mood, rhythm, and a pulse beneath the stone. Every hallway feels a little more haunted, every battle feels more alive, and every step downward carries a stronger sense that the player is entering a place with history, danger, and mystery buried in its walls.
This video marks a major step forward for the game. Azthengar has always been built around atmosphere, old-school dungeon crawling, strange encounters, and that feeling of discovering a lost fantasy game from another time. Now, with music being added, that vision is becoming even stronger. The soundtrack gives the castle its own identity. It helps the Archivist feel more important. It makes the deeper floors feel more dangerous. It gives the fight against Azthengar himself the kind of dark energy it deserves.
The current build is moving toward something bigger than just a playable dungeon crawler. It is becoming a complete experience. The visuals, the battles, the lore, the enemies, the floor progression, and now the music are all starting to lock together into one strange, retro, haunted adventure.
Azthengar is growing.
The castle has found its voice, and the descent is only getting darker from here.
Current Changes Being Worked On
Music Integration
Music is now being added into the game so different moments have their own atmosphere instead of everything feeling silent.
- Rotating Level Music
The dungeon music is being set up to change every three floors on a rotation so the audio does not get stale during longer play sessions. - Archivist of Azthengar Theme
A special theme is being added for the Archivist, including the cabin scene and the Floor 420 encounter. - Azthengar Boss Battle Theme
A darker horror-style battle theme is being added for the fight against King Azthengar. - Floor 420 Archivist Encounter
The special Floor 420 battle is being worked into the game, where the player faces the Archivist and the red dragon. - Red Dragon Correction
The dragon tied to the Archivist encounter is being corrected so it appears red, not green. - Boss Health Fixes
Azthengar’s health behavior is being fixed so he can properly die instead of getting stuck at 1 HP. - Testing and Warp Keys
The K key/testing shortcut is being adjusted for special stages like the Minotaur and Azthengar encounters. - Resetting the Game Flow
After certain special encounters, the game is being adjusted so it can return properly to Floor 1 of the castle. - Cleaner Release Direction
The build is being shaped toward a cleaner release version with autoplay removed from the public-facing experience.
