The Mountain Village Rises

I have been busy working away on Azthengar, expanding the world, adding new NPCs, creating new enemies, and building out more places for the player to discover. On top of that, I have also started making videos where I talk about the game, the process of making it, and life in general. It is honestly the first time I have really done something like this, and I have to say, it has been a lot of fun just sitting down, talking over gameplay, and shooting the breeze with readers and viewers.

For those who may not know what I mean, I have been making videos where I talk honestly about the game, where it is going, and what it feels like to build something like this on my own. Now that I have all the time in the world, I have been putting that time into Azthengar with everything I have. The world of the game has also started to grow in some pretty far-out directions. New areas are being added beyond the castle itself, including the Sacred Mountain path, where the land begins to change as the player climbs higher. The trail starts as a dirt road, then becomes thick with brush and trees, before giving way to a dangerous mountainside filled with smoke, boulders, wolves, and killer snowmen. It gives the journey a real sense of escalation, like the player is moving away from one nightmare and into another strange corner of the world.

Beyond that climb is the new Mountain Village, a hidden place that feels almost impossible, part fantasy settlement, part futuristic sanctuary. It has homes, farmland, small fires, strange lights, and protective guardian orbs that drift through the village. The NPCs there speak of Azthengar, of the throne of skulls, and of the dangers still waiting for the player. It is meant to feel like a place that was crafted by something greater than ordinary hands, a secret village built for the few who survive the climb.
Cheese and crackers, I have been working like a mad lad trying to make Azthengar the best game it can be. Will it become the best game out there? I sure hope so, but I also know the reality of the situation. I do not have a publisher backing me. I do not have a massive team. I am just one person, a lone programmer trying to tell a story, build a world, and make something that feels alive.

Still, that is part of what makes it special to me. Every new enemy, every strange village, every hidden path, every line of dialogue, and every dangerous floor is being made by hand because I believe in this world. Azthengar keeps growing, and I am going to keep pushing it forward. I do not know where this road will lead, but I know I am on it now, and I am going to give it everything I have.
