Making Azthengar Commercials with No Budget and a Prayer

Video game commercials have always been one of my favorite forms of media. There is something wild about them. You have only a few seconds to sell a world, a feeling, a danger, a promise, and then you just pray it hits the mark.

Lately, I have been watching a lot of retro commercials, especially early 90s Sega and SNES ads, trying to figure out how to capture that same energy for Azthengar. As a solo game developer, I will be honest, I do not always know how to get people’s attention. I do not have a big marketing team. I do not have a massive budget. What I do have is the game, a cheap piece of editing software, a stubborn imagination, and a prayer.

So I made a small wave of commercials for Azthengar, inspired by the kind of ads I remember seeing as a kid. Dark, strange, loud, dramatic, and just a little unhinged. The kind of commercial that makes a game feel like something you discovered by accident at the back of a video store.

Azthengar is my retro dark-fantasy CRPG about a cursed castle, an evil king, survival, monsters, omens, relics, and the feeling of stepping into something ancient and hostile. But instead of going on and on about the game like a broken record, I would rather let the commercials speak for themselves.

If anyone reading this knows a publisher who might be interested in Azthengar, feel free to reach out. Until then, I will keep building, editing, experimenting, and trying to get this cursed castle in front of the people who might love it.

Watch the commercials, enter the castle, and enjoy.
