A new build of Azthengar has arrived.

With the release of Build 2026.05.01 on itch.io, a line has been drawn between what the game was and what it has now become. This is not a minor update, nor a simple revision. It is a declaration of intent. Azthengar now stands as a complete experience in motion, shaped by discipline, refinement, and a clear vision of what a dungeon crawler should be.
At its core, this build strengthens the identity of the game. The descent is sharper. The pressure is more deliberate. The early floors now guide without overwhelming, while the deeper levels demand patience and awareness. Survival is no longer a matter of chance, but of judgment. Food, movement, and combat all carry weight, and every decision feels connected to the outcome that follows. The balance has been tightened so that failure feels earned, and success feels deserved.
The world itself has grown more alive. Scattered throughout each floor are the remnants of those who came before. The skeletons now speak with greater clarity and variety, offering warnings, fragments of memory, and echoes of lives long lost. No two descents feel the same, and yet each carries the same quiet message: others have tried, and others have failed. You are simply the next to enter.
A new presence has also emerged within the castle. The Golem now walks its halls. It is not fast, nor is it common, but it is inevitable. When encountered, it changes the rhythm of the game entirely. It does not chase recklessly, nor does it fall easily. It stands as a reminder that some things in Azthengar are not meant to be rushed, and not meant to be taken lightly.

The presentation of the game has been brought into alignment with its purpose. The title screen no longer feels like an entry point, but a threshold. The darkness is deeper, the tone more focused, and the experience begins the moment the game is launched. Visual inconsistencies have been removed, rendering has been cleaned, and the interface now holds steady under every condition. What remains is a cohesive and uninterrupted descent.
Behind the surface, the structure of the game has been refined as well. Systems have been stabilized, code has been cleaned, and the foundation has been strengthened to support what comes next. What the player sees is only part of the work. What they feel, moment to moment, is the result of everything beneath it being brought into order.

Azthengar does not ask for your time. It does not promise comfort. It does not offer an easy path forward. It offers only a descent, and the chance to see how far you are willing to go.
The door is open.
