A world that lives on forever.

A Beast in the Darkness: Introducing the Minotaur to Azthengar

Today, I’ve been working away on a new idea, one that has begun to reshape the game in a meaningful way. What started as a simple expansion has evolved into something far more ambitious, shaking the very foundation of what the game once was. There has been a major addition, and with it, a shift in how the journey unfolds.

The maze of the Minotaur.

Instead of progressing through fifty floors and facing Azthengar directly, the path has changed. The evil king now calls upon the might of the Minotaur, a creature that rules over a vast and twisting maze that exists somewhere between fantasy and reality. This maze is larger, more intricate, and far more unsettling than anything before it. When everything comes together just right, it even gives me chills while playing.

I’ve always wanted to include a Minotaur in the game. There’s something timeless about the idea of a labyrinth and a beast that hunts within it. It’s a concept rooted in myth, yet it fits perfectly within the medieval world I’ve been building. You begin in a castle that leads you toward the evil king, then move through a forgotten landscape filled with strange and memorable places. There’s a dragon guarding a temple, a seaside village where you can speak with its inhabitants, and countless moments that bring the world to life. At the center of it all, you play as a knight, pressing forward into the unknown.

The hunt is on from a Minotaur.

The reason I’m sharing all of this is simple: I love it. I love making this game. I’ve been working on it almost every day, testing constantly, refining systems, and making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. It’s become something I return to again and again, not out of obligation, but because I genuinely enjoy it.

With one of my favorite days approaching, second only to Thanksgiving, I’m planning to take the time to fully immerse myself in the project. Tomorrow, I’ll be diving back in, putting in the hours, and continuing to shape what this game is becoming.

So, have a great Monday. Take a look at the screenshots, watch the video, and see for yourself what the future holds for Azthengar’s next big release.

Watch me take on the Minotuar!
